Subject: “Workplace Health – Or, Is Resilience Enough?”.

Abstract: This begs the question be answered and the Session Leader proposes that, no, employee resilience isn’t enough; a healthy workplace culture is also required.  Stan will explain what resilience is for the employee, for the organization and then explain NQI’s model which includes both of these and more.  How mental health, emotional intelligence, cognitive discipline, corporate social responsibility, OH&S, environmental concerns as well as a supportive culture are necessary components of a healthy workplace.

Bio: Stan Murray, M.Sc. ,  Director, Healthy Workplace® Programs, National Quality Institute. Stan has worked in corporate health promotion for over 29 years developing and directing numerous national, provincial, community and corporate programs. Certified as a Corporate Health Promotion Director, Stan was a lecturer/professor at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Medicine Department of Rehabilitation Medicine and at Centennial College’s Wellness and Lifestyle Management Program. He is a published author of numerous articles on physiology, sport, and corporate health promotion.  

As a former provincial government consultant, Stan worked with over 900 organizations and businesses to improve their leadership and develop stronger teams. In the private sector, he evolved a corporate health services company from a single employee to 45 employees in four years ranking it third in the nation in its respective field. More recently, Stan was the founder and president of Resilience Canada Ltd., an organization that has taken leading edge health promotion to businesses and their employees. Stan has also drawn experience from numerous provincial and national boards such as Ontario Association for Sport and Exercise Sciences, Employee Lifestyle Management Alliance, Go for Green and from chairing the Canadian Council for Health & Active Living at Work.

Stan joined the NQI team in 2008 as Director of Healthy Workplace® Programs, and is working together with other NQI experts and strategic partners, promoting a Healthy Workplace® across Canada.
